The City of Evansville recognizes there have been numerous brown or discolored water occurrences throughout the City. These have likely been caused by a detectable, though less than the regulatory aesthetic standard, concentration of iron and elevated, above the regulatory aesthetic standard but below the maximum contaminant level, concentration of manganese. The discolored the water is safe to consume. In response to iron and manganese in the water the City adds a blended phosphate chemical in an attempt to sequester these compounds.
The City has begun an effort to identify and correct the source of the brown water. A part of this effort includes creation of a database and map to identify the location and timing of brown water within the City. If you notice brown or discolored water please fill out the form below.
