Theodore Robinson Plein Air Painting Competition Sept. 22-Oct. 1

12:00am

John M. Evans Hall, 104 W. Main St.

Event Type: Community

What fun! Artists paint outdoors (en plein air) and submit their works of art for prizes and auction. The contest is named for Evansville native Theodore Robinson, an artist who lived 1852 to 1896, and was a well regarded contemporary of Claude Monet’s. To participate in the competition, artists pay a small fee to receive a specially marked canvas. They then paint any subject matter they choose within the immediate Evansville area. You just might happen to see someone with a canvas, easel and palette standing on a city sidewalk or off the highway in a field!

Completed, framed and ready-to-hang artworks must be submitted by Sunday, October 1, when they will be judged and awarded cash prizes. All art will be exhibited and for sale from noon to 3 p.m. October 1, at John M. Evans Hall, 104 W. Main St., Evansville.  After the event, many pieces of art are loaned for a temporary exhibit at Creekside Place (102 Maple St.) for others to enjoy.

The 6th Annual Theodore Robinson Plein Air Competition is presented by the Friends of Eager Free Public Library, the Theodore Robinson Society, and Evansville Community Partnership. Sponsors this year include Union Bank and Trust, and the City of Evansville Tourism Committee.  More information is available at www.facebook.com/TheodoreRobinsonPAC/.
